TOUCHING

Good morning!

Y'all know that it does NOT take much for me to cry. Therefore, when I read about this story, my eyes began to well up:

If I won the lottery/found a Sugar Daddy (NOTE: I would probably do the former before the latter actually occurred), I would purchase a mansion and use my current home to start my dream business - - - a literacy program for adults. I would also like to be involved in a research program similar to the one found in the link.

Toodles! (Adrienne - - - ;) )

The Robe

It's been nearly 5 years since I received my Ph.D. This picture was taken last Thursday evening. So many thoughts ran through my mind:

* Only 1% of African Americans in the United States hold a Ph.D.; I am a member of this "elite club."
* I've had many ups and downs since receiving my degree; however, God never deserted me.
* People are haters; folks were hatin' on me last Thursday night. They need to DEAL. One individual would not even look me in the face. Sad.
* The robe and hood reminded me that with hard work, I will always prevail - regardless of people and setbacks.
* Lastly, it reminded me that SUMMER BREAK IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angie, I look forward to seeing you in the AM!!! Please bring your extra pages with you!

Love y'all!

ONE YEAR LATER. . .

Dear Readers:

Good morning! Did you PRAISE HIM (no leaf) this morning for another day of life? If not, do so right now! We are blessed.

It's been one year since I began my blog. Due to Adrienne's insistence, I created a blog on 5.22.09. Truly, I have enjoyed this opportunity to meet new people and reconnect with those that I had lost touch from. I have grown from your comments as well as reading the information that you share with me on your blog.

Within the next few weeks, I am going to have my first year "blurbed." I would like to sit back and read what I've written for the past year. This is about the closest that I am going to get to writing a book (due to TIME).

It is official - I am on BREAK. I am back taking the online classes, but heck, at least I have no students calling my name/crazy adults acting as simple as the children.

I will be back next week with SSS.

I have been scrapbooking my booty off. All it takes is attending one scrapbooking crop to get my mojo back. I will be posting some pics soon.

Plans for Memorial Day? I am planning to get together with friends.

Love ya!

End of school year: A Montage of Photos

Folks:

Today marked the end of the school year for my students. Tomorrow, I have to go to work for graduation practice, but otherwise, I am DONE. Do you hear me? D-O-N-E. On Friday, I pick up my final check, and BOUNCE. Indeed, to God be the Glory. I have been through too much over the past 6 weeks, and emotionally, I need to recoup.

This afternoon, Mr. A., Harry, Cordell, Larry, Cannon, Ruby, and I went to Z Tejas to celebrate. Leon and I are the only two in attendance who are not retirees from our district.

We had a blast. Enjoy the photos:

Sunday Singin' Sensation: MAXWELL!!!!!

Good morning!

Y'all give God some extra praise TODAY! You KNOW how I feel about the leaf.

I am back with SSS. It's been AWHILE. See my 5.9.09 post. That should explain why I have been MIA as well as why SSS has been "ghost." I had a deep discussion with someone at work on Friday. The person said, "Dr. C., you should have come to me a long time ago." I said,"Why?" These folks here have done a good job convincing you that I am incompetent (as an instructor), and now, due to events that occurred today, you see for yourself that I am excellent." The "light" is finally starting to "shine through."

Deliver me.

Maxwell is BACK! His new album drops in July. This man is just so sexylicious. "This Woman's Work;" "Lifetime" - - - classics right up there with Sade's "Smooth Operator."

Now, if D'Angelo would only get his behind in CHECK and leave the reefer alone.

If you don't know who Maxwell is, you need Jesus fo' sho.

Yesterday, I attended a Mocha Moms scrapbooking event. Indeed, I needed to play. I completed an album to commemorate my 60 plus students who are graduating. They should hope that they are graduating. 3/4 of them failed to turn in their final essay, and they could have failed on that alone. I asked administration to grant them an extension (Monday). They have until 7:15am to get that essay to me. I was told the following, "Dr. C., folks are SKEERED on this campus. You have a way of putting fear into them." I made these students call their parents on their cell phone (while in class) and tell them that they may not graduate due to their failure last quarter, and failure this quarter if they do not submit their final essay."

Parents were LIVID.

I used Creative Imaginations graduation line (cream and black). The women throughly loved my layouts. I just need to put them into a Creative Memories black album (which I have) call it a day. I will probably send the album off and have CM engrave it.

I am in the process of ordering my doctoral gown. It's not the Deluxe one that I want, but I will wait until next year to invest that kind of $$$ into the gown and tam. This one will "do" for Thursday's graduation.

This school year is ALMOST over - - - THANK GOD!

Women, get the latest Essence magazine. The article on domestic violence is chilling. This mess has GOT to end. It is Essence's best issue in a LONG time.

Enjoy your Sunday!

MESS

Folks:

I am alive. I have just been encountering a lot of MESS. People are absolutely SIK. Indeed, jealousy is a monster. I cannot go into specifics, but it amazes me how people, nearly 20 years older than me, are intimidated by my education; personality; relationships with men that you are interested in, but have never given you the time of day.

I have had to deal with some craziness in the past 24 hours. I will not condone someone twisting my name/title in a way that basically says "F. you, bitch." I will not have anyone lie on me and make me think that I am CRAZY. Lastly, I will not ever allow someone to make me think that I cannot write and comprehend simultaneously that you attempt to belittle me by having me provide you with a brief synopsis. If you ask me to do so, please do you know that you will be the individual humiliated, not I. I do hold a Ph.D. In short, I IS LITERATE AND CAN THINK.

Angie, thank you for your Hump Day email! I've just been too busy to truly respond. I am going to do so right now.

Sarah, how you be?

It's too dang HOT in Phoenix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
